Today's
Stress Tip..by
G. Gaynor McTigue..FRI.7/01/05 Be optimistic...as long as it's realistic. Optimism
is great, but if you constantly set your sites much higher than what realistically
can be achieved, you may be setting yourself up for frequent disappointment. And
that can deflate your optimism over time. By all means live your life optimistically.
Just set your goals near enough out there that you can reasonably attain them.
That will strengthen and build on your optimism. To the point where you'll become
a true optimist -- that is, one who can find the positive in anything, regardless
of the negative circumstances. Be optimistic. But realistic, too. Why make yourself
crazy? Make StressHoliday.com your home page and be greeted each weekday morning with a new stress-reducing strategy! Based
on G. Gaynor McTigue's acclaimed book Why Make Yourself Crazy? featured
in major publications and on talk shows across America.
Previous Stress Tip Slow your perception of time. A
recent study suggests there are physiological reasons why time appears to pass
more quickly for adults than it does for children. Which may explain why the year
that seems like a week to an older person is an eternity to a younger one. Still,
there are ways you can slow your perception of how fast time is moving (if not
the passage of time itself). One is to be in the moment, to focus solely on the
activity you're engaged in -- without rushing or giving in to distraction. Another
is to do what made time seem so boundless to us as kids: take as much of it as
you need to explore, observe and savor what interests you most...naturally...
without being tied to a schedule. Do that, and maybe the rest of your life won't
seem like a mad dash to the finish line. Why make yourself crazy?
