Today's
Stress Tip..by
G. Gaynor McTigue..MON.02/28/05 Very
often -- even though there's no animosity between you; indeed there's politeness
and respect -- you just don't hit it off with another person. Your understanding
of each other, your senses of humor, your style of communicating...are out of
whack. Even awkward at times. These are usually people you're thrown together
with by circumstance rather than choice: a coworker, a roommate, an in-law. Don't
let it distress you. Many people are on different wavelengths. And even though
the both of you would like to have a more intimate relationship, it may not be
in the cards. So don't force it. Just relax and try to make the best of your interactions
with each other. Eventually you may find some common ground, or share an experience,
that will bring you closer. Why make yourself crazy? Based
on G. Gaynor McTigue's acclaimed book Why Make Yourself Crazy? featured
in major publications and on talk shows across America. Come back for a new stress tip each weekday: bookmark this site.
Previous Stress Tip Engage in a sport. If you don't already, it's an excellent way to exercise, relieve stress, socialize, and have fun...all at the same time. It also satisfies a need for competition healthy competition either against yourself (like golf), or others (tennis or softball). As our lives grow busier and more complicated, we eliminate active play. And that's a mistake. Even if you've never considered yourself much of an athlete, you can likely find an enjoyable sport that matches your ability and intensity level. Just make the effort. Whether it's basketball, volleyball, racquetball, or croquet, don't deny yourself the inexpressible release of being totally absorbed in a game. Why make yourself crazy?
